A MOST DANGEROUS FISH

The Lion Fish is invading our coasts.  He has no known predators and is doing damage to our local habitat.  Check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission on how you can help!

Another panther bites the dust

Sadly, the twenty-fourth panther, a 4 year old female was killed yesterday at the Collier/Hendry County line.

There seems to be an awful lot of this going on and little hope remains for the panther's long term survival.

On a brighter note, we went to the Naples Botanical Garden and was pleasantly surprised to see the new gardens and how well they are laid out.

Take a photo in Florida - Go to Jail for a long time.

Ya all ain't gonna believe this one .  In our great Republican State of Florida the Senate is about to consider sending you to jail if you take a photo of a farm. Taking any photo of a farm becomes not a misdemeanor but a felony of the first degree.  This means that the local sheriff can send you away for a long time.  Don't believe me?  See the following link:  www.flsenate.gov/Sessions/Bill/2011/1246.

We here in Florida can tramp all over the U.S. Constitution.  Hey, and ten years for taking a picture of a farm from a road isn't too cruel and unusual, is it?  No photographers rights here.  Just ask the hay seeds that introduced the bill to enable a few of their profiteering farmers to create unspeakable cruelties to farm stock without fear of discovery by animal rights groups.

Visiting Florida?  Leave that camera home!

Wait til this baby hits the Supreme Court.

Panthers

Last year 22 endangered Florida Panthers were killed mostly by autos.  Already three panthers have been killed in 2011 and two of them were by cars.  The Feds have yet to declare panther habitat.  The State always says we have about a hundred surviving panthers.  The State also issued a report that there was something like twenty kittens from collared panthers and another 40 from uncollared born in 2010.  Somehow there's some nonsense going on and it should be looked into.

Fall in SW Florida

Went to Corkscrew Sanctuary the other day and noted the many subtle fall things that tell us of a change of seasons.
